Salt Chlorine Generators
In recent years there has been a growth in the popularity of
salt chlorine generators for swimming pool disinfection. This
has been especially true in those states with the greatest number
of pools, including Florida, California, Texas, New York, and
Arizona.
Salt chlorine generators, also known as salt chlorinators, salt
generators, and salt cells, produce chlorine through the process
of electrolysis. Water passing through a charged electrolytic
cell produces chlorine which is instantaneously transformed into
hypochlorus acid and pumped through the pool water, sanitizing
the pool.
Recently, questions have arisen about the detrimental effects
of salt chlorine generators on pool copings, decks, and decorative
water features.
A recent article in Pool & Spa News, a leading pool
industry publication, discussed a number of the effects that have
been reported.
